Volunteering for Breadwinners: How Can I Get Involved?
Introducing Breadwinners
At Breadwinners, we are always open to new volunteers who want to join our community and help support our Risers and Breadwinners.
If you are interested in volunteering for Breadwinners, you might know a bit about us already, but in case you don’t, here’s a quick guide to who we are and what we do.
Breadwinners is a registered charity which supports refugees and young people seeking asylum into work. We do this through providing training and work experience selling artisan bread at our markets and in our online store. We currently operate three programmes: Risers, Breadwinners and Proofers.
Alongside paid or voluntary work, all our programme members also receive skills training in topics such as interviews and CV writing, and our Risers are assigned a personal mentor to help them set goals for their future.
Go to our “Our Work” page to find out more.
Mentoring for Breadwinners
We are always looking for London-based mentors to provide employment mentoring for our Risers programme for young people (16-24) seeking asylum.
The mentoring programme aims to help our Risers become more prepared for the world of work, set career goals and plan how to reach them. It also helps our Risers build social networks and experience the culture of the UK, which in turn aids their confidence and their language abilities.
You don’t need any specific experience to become a mentor, just a will to support your mentee and help them learn about working in the UK. You need to be passionate and enthusiastic about helping others achieve their goals, as well as friendly and approachable. You’ll become part of the Breadwinners family in this challenging but rewarding role.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer Risers mentor, then click here to fill out our interest form, or you can find more information on the mentor programme here.
Blogging for Breadwinners
If you aren’t based in London, or aren’t able to commit to being a mentor, we are always open to guest writers helping us with our blog, or to press opportunities that would like to write a piece about Breadwinners.
If you are interested in helping out, or have an idea for something you’d like to write for or about Breadwinners, then send our Communications Manager, Zoe, an email at zoe@breadwinners.org.uk.
Fundraising for Breadwinners
If you aren’t into writing, you could also help us by fundraising for Breadwinners. As a charity, donations and funding are always welcome to help us support our mission. How about a sponsored run with your colleagues, or donating the profits from a car boot sale?
If you are interested in fundraising for Breadwinners and would like to co-ordinate with us promoting your fundraising event, then send us an email at hello@breadwinners.org.uk.
Other volunteering opportunities
We can’t always accept other volunteers, but if you have a specific or special skill or area of expertise you think could be helpful, please do get in touch. We are particularly interested in voluntary help from website designers and e-commerce experts. Send us an email – again! – at hello@breadwinners.org.uk if you think you fit the bill.
