Introducing Baneta Yelda

Baneta Yelda is the co-owner of Companio Bakery in Manchester and is an Assyrian Iraqi who arrived in the UK as a refugee in 2014. Not only does she bring the lived experience of being a refugee to Breadwinners as a Trustee, she also knows a lot about bread.

Baneta carries a strong family heritage in baking, harking back to her Grandmother who was a prolific community baker back in Iraq; this serves Baneta to bring her individual flavour and heritage to Companio Bakery. After arriving in the UK from Iraq as a refugee in 2014, she made use of her degree in Biology and her MBA, going into clinical science in the NHS, before then retraining to become a chef.

Introducing Harry George

Harry George opened his first coffee shop at 21 and now works for SEND coffee. SEND Stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities; the social enterprise hires and helps people with special needs or disabilities into jobs in the coffee industry. Harry’ll be bringing his expertise as a social entrepreneur to Breadwinners.

After opening his first coffee shop when he was 21, Harry has since gone on to open 9 more of his own and helped others to open a further 52. He’s worked in prisons training young offenders how to be baristas (and behave!), overseeing a mentoring scheme for formerly homeless people, and has a hidden disability himself that made it hard for him when he first started as a barista..

Our Trustees support our team and help us make great decisions to benefit our community and young people. That’s why we’re so pleased to be welcoming two Trustees with so much expertise and motivation to support our work.

Join us in giving Harry and Baneta a big welcome to the Breadwinners community.
