From Theory to Action: Breadwinners won "Prove It: Social Impact 2024" award by SEUK, again!
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve won the “Prove It: Social Impact Award 2024” from Social Enterprise UK. This marks our second win in this category, having previously taken home the award in 2022! To top it off, we were also recognized as one of the Top 7 #CommunityBased Social Enterprises of the Year. 🏆🎉
This achievement is a testament to the incredible efforts of our core team, young people, volunteer mentors, and trustees—both past and present—who have built the vibrant and impactful community that Breadwinners represents. Together, we’ve supported over 604 young refugees so far, empowering them with vital work experience, mentorship, and the support they need to thrive in the UK. 💪
Participatory Action Research at Its Best
Our success stems from a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. This year, we took our Participatory Action Research to the next level. Young refugees led the charge, designing research questions, engaging with our community, and shaping the future of our programmes. To make this process even more inclusive, we leveraged AI technology (thanks to Earlybird), ensuring the work remained accessible while amplifying the voices of those who know our impact best—the young people themselves.

Sharing Our Impact Journey
This year, we also had the privilege of sharing our approach to impact at events hosted by On Purpose London, Impact Hub London, The Institute of Government and Policy, and the Univieristy of Westminster. These sessions allowed us to showcase:
Our Theory of Change, which ensures that every loaf of bread sold supports jobs for young refugees.
The Development Star, a tool guiding the growth of both mentors and mentees while measuring our impact.
How young refugees are at the heart of our Participatory Action Research, designing and running surveys to gather vital community feedback.
Our responsible use of AI to complement the critical roles young refugees play in research and programme improvement.
Shoutouts and Thanks
A huge thank you to the Social Enterprise UK team and all the inspiring nominees. The night was a celebration of the incredible work happening across the sector. A special shoutout to Osman (pictured with me) for being a key part of our research efforts and for standing alongside me to receive this award.
Join Us in Making a Difference
