A Slice of Empowerment: International Women's Day Cakes inspired by Ruth

As the world gears up to celebrate International Women's Day on the 8th of March, Adele of Made by Adele is adding a delicious twist to the festivities. This year, her International Women’s Day themed cakes are raising funds for Breadwinners, and we are so excited!. As a tribute to the theme of "Inspire Inclusion", Adele shares a slice of empowerment inspired by Ruth, a remarkable Breadwinners graduate, and her Nigerian heritage.

Ruth spoke to Adele about the food she used to eat in Nigeria, from Zobo (a refreshing drink made from Hibiscus) to Puff Puff (a delicious sounding leavened sweet fried dough snack flavoured with nutmeg) and about many of the ingredients commonly used in Nigerian cooking.

Now, let's talk about Nigeria's fantastic food scene for a sec — it's been gaining some well-deserved popularity lately, and trust me, it's for all the right reasons. In honor of International Women's Day, a special spiced banana, pineapple, and coconut cake has been crafted, inspired by Ruth's Nigerian roots. Just thinking about it is enough to make you hungry!

But wait, there's more to this delectable story! March 8th holds an extra layer of significance as it also marks Ruth’s birthday! Having graduated from Breadwinners in 2021, her journey is nothing short of inspirational — from leaving her family owned restaurant in Benin City, Nigeria, which was actually named after her, to selling baked goods at Breadwinners - it's a story of resilience and empowerment.

This story celebrates the power of food in spreading love, embracing diversity, and empowering women globally. Let's make this International Women's Day a sweet celebration—filled with the essence of Ruth's journey and a shared commitment to empowerment. Here's to celebrating women, diversity, and hopefully eating some delicious cakes! 🍰✨
