Winner! Breadwinners win the Employer Award at the Festival of Learning 2024

This year we were excited to win the Employer’s Award at the 2024 Festival of Learning for our work supporting refugees and asylum seekers into their first employment in the UK.

Festival of Learning is the biggest celebration of lifelong learning in England. It’s the Learning and Work Institute’s flagship campaign celebrating the benefits of lifelong learning and inspire more adults to learn.

We were so proud to be recognised alongside 11 other amazing winners each with inspiring stories of their own.

What did the Festival of Learning have to say about Breadwinners?

“Breadwinners is a social enterprise giving young refugees and people seeking asylum their first employment in the UK. Over the last five years, Breadwinners have supported more than 400 young people through their programmes, with impressively high success rates in improving learners’ wellbeing and supporting them to gain meaningful employment.”

Participants on our Breadwinners Programme are paid the living wage to sell bread at markets. Alongside this, every programme participant at Breadwinners attends regular training sessions and one-to-one mentoring. The mentoring element of our programmes mean that the learning experience can be tailored more specifically to each individual’s needs. We are incredibly proud to have been won the Employer Award at this year’s Festival of Learning.
