From our trustees
2020 has been the most incredibly difficult year, and a year which could have really rocked Breadwinners – a small charity built on connections and community. Instead, Breadwinners has proved itself to be stronger than ever.
With so much important work ahead in 2021, we are energised by every supporter, every funder, every partner and every volunteer. Thank you for your continued and brilliant support of Breadwinners; we’re so grateful you are part of our community.
- Marika Wilson, trustee
Peer-Led Review
In December 2020, Breadwinners set out to produce their first external and peer-led Social Impact report, running a series of 1 to 1 peer-led interviews via phone call to find out about the programmes Social Impact and prospective changes to the programmes. The main aim was looking for ways to improve the support Breadwinners could provide to young refugees, while providing new skills to our Proofers Programme Participants and ensuring the information was captured in an unbiased way and led by experts by experience. We thought we would get more honest and useful answers if the people asking the questions were also programme participants.
Four “Proofers” programme participants were tasked to call 74 programme graduates. 24 interviews have been used for the analysis presented. Check the research findings on the report!
Changes Made!
After this report, we made some significant changes. The Breadwinners programme has now a fixed 6 month period of work with a progression into the Proofers Programme, which has a 3 month fixed period of support. This has been a radical change to our programmes which has been put in place and will be re-assessed by the end of 2021.
