From Young Riser to Manager!

Hassan (Centre) is a Breadwinners AND Risers Programme Alumni!

Hassan is a young man from Somalia who came to the UK seeking safety and protection. He is eager to learn anything new including experiences and skills. At the moment, he is focusing on improving his English, and taking any opportunity to learn computing because he wants to study Computer Sciences at University.

Hassan, who has done both the “Risers'' programme (for young people seeking asylum), and our “Breadwinners” programme (for refugees eager to have their first job) is now managing our online store facilitating bread deliveries on weekends. 

In previous months this amazing young man has been responsible for 7 Breadwinners undertaking the programme, all market stall logistics, equipment and processes. He has supported the market stall managers and over 30 volunteers to successfully run the markets week-to-week. 

When asked what he has learned during his time with Breadwinners so far, he replied: “I have developed many skills, including teamwork, motivation, effective communication, customer service and sales experience.” His best memory is training for customer service, which he said changed his life and gave him more confidence.  He said “Before this training I was very shy and not confident in front of the customers or my classmates, but after the training I became confident. I learned: ‘be yourself’!
