Refugee Week 2020 and our Simple Act

Refugee Week (15th to 21st of June 2020) is a UK-wide festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees. Founded in 1998 and held every year around World Refugee Day on the 20 June, Refugee Week is also a growing global movement. At Breadwinners, we are a true testament of the contribution people from all around the world bring to our day to day work at the markets, and online.

More people are being forced to leave their homes today than ever before in history. And across the world, people are closing their front doors for the last time only to face life-threatening journeys, separation from their families and, all too often, detention, poverty or isolation when they reach ‘safety’.

Refugees and asylum seekers have amazing skills, energy and inspiring approach to problem-solving. They do need our support and solidarity to provide the opportunities neglected all year round. This year, our #SimpleAct to join this movement will be running 5km, individually to make sure we keep social distance, as our normal running challenge involves too many people! We will be connected and encouraging each other via video call. We hope you can join us on the run or in the spirit and energy. By doing so, you’ll be joining and spreading a huge global movement that says “We welcome refugees”.
