An organic relationship: Breadwinners and Shipton Mill putting people and planet first

In the heart of the Gloucestershire valley sits Shipton Mill, a restored flour mill set on the edge of an ancient woodland. Founded in 1979, it is a mill that champions organic growing whilst sourcing the best quality grains.

The mill’s founder, John Lister, has extended his passion for milling and bread baking beyond the countryside and into central London, where he set up Breadwinners in 2016. As the founder of Shipton Mill, as well as our own Chair of Trustees, he is an integral part of the Breadwinners story and our environmental and social outlook.

At Breadwinners, all of the delicious bread and pastries we sell are organic, made with Soil Association certified flour from Shipton Mill, who source only the best quality grains and support farming practices that work with nature, not against it.

This is just one reason that at Breadwinners we are a People and Planet First verified social enterprise! You can read more about what this means and what makes us a People and Planet First organisation here.

Share our values? Become a wholesale partner!

Do these values align with your own organisation’s? We’re always on the look out to partner with cafes, restaurants, catering companies and corporates who put social and environmental factors at the heart of what they do. As well as being organic and artisan, our wholesale service supports our Proofers Programme, which means that when you buy from us, you will be directly supporting refugees into work. Through calling new customers and managing orders, our Proofers develop key IT and customer service skills needed to progress into work and beyond.
