We transform lives through selling bread.
We employ refugees to sell the organic artisan bread at farmers’ markets in London and Brighton, and to manage our online bread delivery service.
Our three employability programmes provide jobs, work experience, training and mentoring for refugees and young people seeking asylum.
In the same way that all our bread starts with a sourdough starter, all our programmes start with work or work experience.
We provide paid work for our Breadwinners and Proofers on our market stalls and for our online bread delivery service.
Without great flour, our bread can’t get very far, and without our training workshops, our programmes would be missing something essential too.
We provide employment training on subjects like interview skills and CV writing.
Water is what brings the bread dough together. Like water, mentoring completes the programme and allows our young people to thrive.
You can register your interest in becoming a volunteer mentor here.
Risers provides early intervention support for young people seeking asylum aged 16 to 24. We provide work experience and training as Market Stall Assistants.
Breadwinners supports refugees who have been granted refugee status in the UK, but are struggling to find employment. They manage our markets and receive training.
Proofers up-skills our Breadwinners, developing their customer service and IT skills through running our e-commerce. The programme was born from the Covid-19 pandemic.

As we embrace Refugee Week, we are reflecting on the meaning of ‘home’ for those who have traversed borders, endured hardships, and sought sanctuary in foreign lands. NessaKem, a talented poet and a cherished member of our Breadwinners family, has beautifully encapsulated this sentiment in her poignant poem, ‘Home’. Her words are a heartfelt reminder of the significance of creating spaces where refugees can find solace, love, and acceptance.
We are thrilled to announce our special event to celebrate Refugee Week 2024—a Community Walk and Picnic aimed at bringing together our community and raising vital funds to support young refugees in the UK. This event will take place on Sunday, 23rd June 2024, and we need your help to make it a success!
I know this is not the most exciting thing ever, so I’ll try to keep it sweet and short. Here is a quick review of Breadwinners Foundation's annual financial year 2022/2023. This financial year has been particularly significantly challenging, marked by the post-COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent cost of living crisis, together with the hostile environment towards refugees in the UK. Despite these obstacles, our commitment to innovation and adaptability has allowed us to thrive and make a lasting impact on the lives of refugees and young people seeking asylum.
My name is Sara and I’m here to share my journey navigating the hardships of seeking asylum in the UK and finding a window of hope in the process, by selling bread.
As the world gears up to celebrate International Women's Day on the 8th of March, Adele of Made by Adele is adding a delicious twist to the festivities. This year, her International Women’s Day themed cakes are raising funds for Breadwinners, and we are so excited!. As a tribute to the theme of "Inspire Inclusion", Adele shares a slice of empowerment inspired by Ruth, a remarkable Breadwinners graduate, and her Nigerian heritage.
One of our dedicated volunteer mentors will soon be going one step further for Breadwinners as she runs the Bath Half! We had an amazing conversation with Maddy, we talked about how she has been preparing for the half marathon, that is not just for personal achievement but as a heartfelt contribution to the Breadwinners cause. From Maddy's voice, you could sense how much this cause truly means to her.
Our newest story teller, Adepeju Adigun, writes about a recent fashion day that Breadwinners spent with Thread Ahead, who provide brand new clothes to refugees. The day was about so much more than clothes, it was a celebration of empowerment, dignity, and sustainable style!
Our Big Give 2023 Christmas Challenge has launched! Between 28 November and 5 December 2023, The Big Give is doubling donations made to Breadwinners, which means your donation will have twice the impact!
Read about our collaboration with National Grid and Screen Share. We're delighted to share the success story of providing 53 laptops to eager and talented young individuals. Thanks to the generosity of Aaron from National Grid and the commitment of Screen Share to digital inclusivity, these laptops are now empowering dreams and opening doors to a world of opportunities.
We reinvest donations into equipment for our market stalls. Bread sales pay the wages of young refugees who work at the markets, so the more markets we have, the more employment opportunities we can provide for refugees.
Do something amazing today.
Your donation to Breadwinners has a massive impact. It doesn’t matter how big or small it is - you can help us support more refugees into work.
With your help we will be able to take Breadwinners to the next level, scaling up our programmes and supporting refugees and young people seeking asylum to get back on their feet.
